Vazgen Mikaeli Manukyan (February 13, 1946, Yerevan, Armenian SSR, USSR), Armenian national, state, political figure. The first Prime Minister of the Third Republic of Armenia, former Minister of Defense of Armenia during the Artsakh war in 1992-1993. Member of the Co-Founding Committee of the Karabakh Committee since February 1988, and Coordinator of the Karabakh Committee since June 1988 [1] [2]. 1988 He was arrested on December 10, 1945, along with other members of the Karabakh Committee, and spent six months in Moscow’s Matroskaya Tishina Prison. [1] [3] He was the first chairman of the co-founding board of the “Armenian National Movement” (ANM) party [4]. In 1990-1995 he was a deputy of the Supreme Council of Armenia, in 1995-2007 – a deputy of the RA National Assembly. In 1991, together with the active participants and supporters of the movement, he initiated the establishment of the National Democratic Union (NDU) party. Chairman of the NDU party board since 1991.In September 1992, he was appointed Minister of State of the Republic of Armenia, hereinafter referred to as Minister of Defense, at the same time managing the military-industrial complex of the Republic of Armenia. During the reign of Vazgen Manukyan, the regular Armenian army was formed, the course of the war was changed [5], when the Armenian side was winning in a row, he was relieved of his post in August 1993 [6]. From March 2009 to December 2019 he was the chairman of the Public Council of Armenia. Since 2019, he has been the President of the Vernatun Public Political Club.
